Slushy Characters

In early 2022, I began collaborating with the app Slushy to create a series of characters and animated gifs for the various pages on the app. I collaborated closely with CEO David Gross, who had a very specific vision for the characters and styles he wanted to display on these pages. He wanted the characters to have personalities, he didn’t want them to just be characters that simply existed in a vacuum. He referenced cartoons from the 90s such as Ren and Stimpy and video games such Toe Jam and Earl for me to pull inspiration from.

The design process was fairly difficult, I ended up doing a large amount of “base” designs for them to pull from and see which avenues to go down. I ended up doing about 30 characters to show, of them they picked 12 for me to do design variations and outfit variations to give each one a distinct personality and “vibe”. After the design variations, 7 characters and their designs were picked to be animated, and from there I did color variations and turnarounds to assist in the process.
